Creative Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day 2022
Though we often try to find something unique and special to give Mom, most moms will tell you the best Mother’s Days are those spent with family. We’ve got some suggestions for ways to make Mother’s Day 2022 special – and to spend some quality time together – even if you live far apart.
Breakfast in Bed
Start Mother’s Day right by serving her breakfast in bed. Try to avoid foods that could lead to crumbs or sticky messes on the bedding. This recipe for Cheddar, Pepper, and Avocado Scrambled Eggs in a Jar is fast and easy enough for even young kids to help. This also won’t leave a mess in the bed, Mom may feel the need to clean up later.
Plan a Picnic Lunch
If Mom lives nearby, prepare a special lunch and take her on a picnic. It can be as close as your backyard, a local park, or – if the weather isn’t cooperating – a blanket and throw pillows on the floor.
Consider preparing a sandwich she’ll always remember like these Pressed Italian Sandwiches from the Seasons and Suppers food blog. They’re easy to put together, and there’s a demonstration video to walk you through the assembly process. You (or the grandkids) can personalize Mom’s sandwich by wrapping it in parchment paper you’ve pre-decorated using colored markers and stickers.
Learn Something New Together
If you can’t spend Mother’s Day in person, why not enjoy a virtual hobby together? Sign up to take a virtual cooking, yoga, or painting class together. As a gift, consider giving her a membership to one of the many virtual learning sites like MasterClass, where she can explore topics with experts in their fields, or a virtual gym membership where she can participate in online exercise classes in yoga, Pilates, meditation, weight training, and more in the privacy of her home.
Plan an Outdoor Adventure Together
If Mom enjoys walking, biking, kayaking, or birdwatching, why not spend Mother’s Day together at one of Palm Beach County’s amazing parks or nature preserves? Whether exploring the Everglades ecosystem, collecting shells, or taking a leisurely bike ride, be sure to make Mom feel extra special by greeting her with her favorite iced latte and a personalized water bottle.
Have a Pool or Beach Day
May is a great month for water activities. Grab Mom and head to one of Palm Beach County’s many beaches, most of which are guarded by lifeguards daily around the year. If your mom isn’t a fan of sand, residents of Sky Cove and Sky Cove South have access to Westlake Adventure Park’s fifteen acres of resort-style amenities.
Take Mom to Tea
Does your mom love feeling fancy? Treat her to Mother’s Day Tea Service on Sunday, May 8 at noon or 2:00 p.m. at the Flagler Museum. Tickets are $70 for museum members, $80 for non-members, and $35 for kids ages 12 and under. General admission to the museum is included, so plan on taking a tour before or after the tea service to complete the experience.
Stroll Through the Farmer’s Market
Palm Beach County has plenty of farmer’s markets to visit, whether your mom prefers weekly outdoor markets, like The Gardens GreenMarket – open every Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., including on Mother’s Day – or daily indoor markets, like Bedner’s Farm Fresh Market.
To round out the day, you could have your mom pick out her favorite fruits, veggies, and other fresh items, then cook her a meal with the ingredients once you get home.
Treat Her to a Spa Day
Mom deserves a chance to relax, and a gift card for a day at the spa is a great way to do that. Sky Cove and Sky Cove South of Westlake residents have a spa in nearby Loxahatchee, Baden Spa and Wellness. With a variety of unique facials, massages, and body treatments to choose from, your mom can decide which experience she wants to soothe away her stress.
Go Camping
Why not make a whole weekend out of Mother’s Day and take her camping? For the animal-loving mother, you can camp at this KOA right next to Lion Country Safari.
If Mom loves the beach, Peanut Island Park and Jonathan Dickinson State Park offer excellent camping options. If Mom is more of a lake-loving gal, check out Torry Island Campground on Lake Okeechobee.
Send Her to the Mother’s Day Orchid Workshoppe
If your mother has a green thumb, she may love the Mother’s Day Orchid Workshoppe at The Garden Shoppe at noon on Mother’s Day. She’ll get to create her own custom arrangement with an orchid and pot of her choice and learn how to properly care for the plant. In addition to the planting materials, the ticket price includes a glass of wine.
Take Mom to Brunch
Palm Beach County offers plenty of options if you want to take Mom to Mother’s Day Brunch. Some unique choices include:
- Mother’s Day Buffet Brunch and Polo Match at the International Polo Club at 2:00 p.m.
- The Dancing Crane Mother’s Day Brunch, with live entertainment overlooking the Sandhill Crane Golf Club from 10:30 a.m to 3:00 p.m., featuring an extended buffet with interactive chef stations.
- Mother’s Day Brunch at Copperpoint Brewing Co. with TMI Food Truck, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Mother’s Day Brunch at the Addison, featuring Five Star Diamond awarded cuisine, unlimited bubbles and wine, live entertainment, and kids’ activities.
- Mother’s Day Brunch – Paint/Food/Fun at Painting With a Twist from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Start a Pen Pal Tradition
If you and your mom don’t live near each other, you can start a tradition of sending each other hand-written letters or homemade cards. Start by sending her a Mother’s Day card this year, then next year, you and she can pull out the saved letters and cards and review them together over a phone or video call.
Don’t Forget the Card
For many moms, a handmade Mother’s Day card is a treasured keepsake. For a unique card, you can attend the virtual Family Fun Day: Mother’s Day Origami Flower Pot Card program via the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens and learn how to make your own origami tulip in a flower pot card. The class will be at noon on Mother’s Day.
